FAQ

Find answers to common questions about Groom & Co pocket watches, shipping, returns, gifting, watch types and choosing the right design.

Q. What is a mechanical pocket watch?

A. A mechanical watch is a watch that doesn’t use a battery, but rather uses primarily kinetic energy to wind the watch while it is moving.

Q. How long will a mechanical watch keep time while it is sitting still?

A. This depends on how long the watch was moving. A good rule of thumb is that if you keep the watch on your person for around 10 hours per day, it will never stop, but most people will just set the time before heading off with the watch. A quick wind will get it started, and then movement will keep it going.

Q. Mechanical or battery (quartz)?

A. Mechanical pocket watches are designed to last and are often kept as heirlooms, so most of our range is mechanical. We also stock Swiss quartz pocket watches if you would rather not wind your watch; the movement is listed on each product page.

Q. What shipping do you use?

A. We use Australia Post eparcel. Fast, and trackable (tracking number is provided).

Q. What if I don’t like the design when I receive it?

A. We don’t offer returns or exchanges for change of mind, so please have a good look at the photos and the description before you order — and ask us anything you’re unsure about, we’re happy to help. If an item arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, contact us within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo and we’ll arrange a replacement or a refund under the Australian Consumer Law. Return postage is the customer’s responsibility.
